Reading Specialist, 2012-present

Grades K-5, St. Charles, IL

In my time as a Reading Specialist, I have had the opportunity to work in many capacities.

In my first role as a Reading Specialist, I served as a Title One interventionist.  I supported the needs of students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 through focused interventions in grade K-2.

For the last two years I have done both coaching and intervention work in a K-5 building.  A major part of my days has been spent in support of teachers’ core instruction and strengthening understanding of the classroom environment.  I have found that classroom management and structure are a passion of mine.  I feel very fortunate to share my passion and help improve instruction.

First Grade Teacher, 2007-2011:

Being a first grade teacher was the best thing to happen to me.  I found myself teaching students how to read, write, listen, and speak.  There is nothing better!  The world is such a complex puzzle to children, but through consistent scaffolding, high expectations, and use of data, I was able to unveil potential, excitement, self-esteem, and passion.  Learning happens when children are engaged in activities that pull them in, entice them.  Using  various modalities students can’t help but grow and see themselves as a learner.
